Artemis Family
Artemis' mother was the female Titan Leto, and her father was Zeus. When Hera, Zeus' wife, found out that Leto was pregnant with twins Artemis and Apollo fathered by Zeus, she flew into a jealous fit. She forbade all lands and waters to give Leto rest. She also sent the dragon Python to chase Leto. Finally, Leto came to the island of Delos because that island disobeyed Hera's orders. There Leto gave birth to Artemis and her twin brother Apollo. Artemis was born first and became her mother's midwife during the birth of Apollo.
Artemis believed that she had been chosen by the Fates to be a midwife, since she had assisted her mother when her twin brother, Apollo was born. All of her companions remained virgins and Artemis vowed to remain a virgin.
